Microsoft has fixed an issue of Windows 10 users, who were complaining about Blue (or Green) Screen of Death after updating their systems to KB5001391 update. The issue was specific to those who use Intel’s Rapid Storage Technology drivers and are treated with a BAD_POOL_CALLER bug which is now fixed.
Windows 10 BSOD Bug in May 2021 Update
As Windows 10 users are facing more problems than fixes in the cumulative updates since last year, Microsoft has started testing by themselves before rolling out the update to the public. And that turned out to be okay even though created some problems at the beginning. One such update is the Windows 10 May 2021 rollout.
Users who applied the monthly update of KB5001391 to the Windows 10 May 2021 version are hit with a Blue Screen of Death or Green Screen of Death issue. This happens specifically to those who’re using Intel’s Rapid Storage Technology drivers.
One user from the Microsoft Feedback Hub said, “I’m using the Insider Preview Build 19043.928 (Version 21H1). Yesterday. after the Windows Update KB5001391 was installed, my computer would always encounter the green error screen about a minute after logging in and would reboot automatically. I had to uninstall the update to stop the rebooting cycle.”
The error displayed in this issue is the “BAD_POOL_CALLER” bug and was only limited to those using Intel’s RST drivers. While many shared that removing the latest KB update solved the issue, Microsoft has come up with a dedicated fix for that. And this happened to be released even before the rollout of the May 2021 update.
An update released on April 28th, Microsoft said in its changelog as “We fixed an issue causing a 0xC2 (BAD_POOL_CALLER) bugcheck when using IOCTL_SCSI_PASS_THROUGH_DIRECT.”
